Monday Minutia

• Saw a post on FB that cracked me right up. It said, "If Mondays were shoes, they'd be Crocs"

• And on that note, the funniest thing I ever saw on Twitter was a tweet from a dude who said, "Whoever just left me a voice mail, could you send me a text and let me know if I should listen to it?" 

• So all the weather people here are foaming at the mouth over the fact that we need 2" more of snow to break the record for the snowiest winter ever. I'm thinking, really? Tell that to the thousands of us here dealing with ice dam damage and seasonal depression..

• I'm almost finished with the 3rd season of "Breaking Bad". Why did I never watch this show when everyone was telling me I had to? I'm now obsessed! This is the greatest thing on television! I love the whole dynamic between Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston. And Aaron Paul's, " Yo, where's my money?...Bitch!" Interesting to note: "Breaking Bad" is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Highest Rated TV Series.

• The Boston Herald reported that My Tommy is thinking that after he retires from football, he may go the Hollywood way, via an acting career. I say whatever My Tommy is selling...I'm buying.

Sheer perfection...I'd pay to watch him recite the alphabet.

Happy Holiday

Today is holiday in Massachusetts! It's Patriots day and it's a nice little break for us in early spring.

Patriots Day is a civic holiday that commemorates the anniversary of the first battles of the Revolutionary war; the Battles of Lexington and Concord. It is alway on the third Monday of April and the battles are re- enacted in both Lexington, MA, at the Lexington Green, and Concord, MA at the Old North Bridge. Hundreds of Militia groups gather to enjoy the re-enactment of the battles and play war games.

It's also the 117th running of the Boston Marathon, or "Marathon Monday". The 26.2 mile marathon which begins at 9: 35 AM and goes in waves till the last group runs off about 10:40 AM. For me? It's a forced holiday. The famous marathon runs right in front of The Candy Bar  in Wellesley, and closes things down in the town for most of the day. The streets surrounding Wellesley are blocked and there is only foot traffic allowed. It's not a great retail environment, so we all shut down for the day. The weather is not cooperating either. The chilly 43 degree weather will keep the spectators to a minimum.

A traditional Red Sox/Tampa Bay matinee at Fenway rounds out the Patriot's Day events  making us a bustling HUB of activity. I am going to make the most of a rare Monday off and do a few things I never get to do, like cook and clean and go to the supermarket. (seriously, I really just said that)

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

It was one of those weekends.

The Good: I got to see an old friend and help a good one. Seeing people you used to have a great connection and memories with is always a pleasure. It's nice to catch up and commiserate over shared issues and people and laugh about old times. My good friend finally relented, which is a miracle in itself, but she allowed me to help her through a challenge. I can report the outcome was better than expected and facing the challenge may have helped her more that we both know.

The Bad: The hits just keep on coming, but I will not relent. Forward motion is what I will continue and I will not let this battle deter me from my final goal. I've done my due diligence and I'm moving forward with the plan. Battle I will, if the need be, but I will not relent. The strong survive and I've got that on my side. I am confident the outcome will be worth it all.

The Ugly: Oh yeah, it was ugly, and we all know it. Every soldier on that field yesterday and every fan can all agree, that Patriots loss in the home opener was ugly. No two ways about it. Ugly breeds ugly. I couldn't help but feel like this was payback for the Baltimore loss last year in the playoffs on the same play. Now I know what the fan from Baltimore feel like. It doesn't feel good. Yet, every week we keep coming back for more. Go figure.

And in the immortal words of Scarlett O'Hara, "Tomorrow is another day."
I'm holding out hope for today.

I Was Just Thinking....

Is it just me or did Beyoncé have the shortest pregnancy in the history of the universe? I mean, didn't she like, just announce her pregnancy at the VMA awards? I think that was in September and if she was three months pregnant at the time, that would make her eight months pregnant now. Is there some super expensive, Fast Lane, Fast Pass sort of VIP baby delivery ticket that you can buy that the general public doesn't know about? Cause I'm thinking thats how Beyoncé delivered a baby on Saturday. And in record time. (no pun intended) I read this morning that they rented out an entire floor in the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York with a price tag of $1.4 million for the delivery. Evidently this is how the rich and famous give birth these days.


It's a My Tommy, Tim Tebow match up for Saturday and are you ready for some football? I feel good about this one and I think it's going to be a great game. I might be a little worried, though. Even though Tommy and the Pats handled Tim and the Broncos with no problem on week 15, and I think they will again on Saturday, I think Tim Tebow is Jesus's homeboy. I'm just sayin, the kid's got momentum and the good Lord on his side. That can't hurt when you're playing football. I still predict that the Patriots will prevail because I believe in My Tommy.

I discovered this weekend that I'm a hard-core foodie. I love to read about food. I love to cook food. I love to eat food. My favorite magazines are Rachel Ray Every Day and the Food Network Magazine. I spent several hours organizing my magazines, compiling new recipes and reading new recipes on Sunday. I don't throw out my food magazines, I file them away by month and year so that I can refer back to them when I need to. Doesn't this sound slightly obsessive? The fact that I start every day thinking about what's for dinner may be an indication of how important food is in my life.

I also discovered this weekend that I'm going blind as a bat. (are bats really blind?) I find myself wearing of my reading glasses more and more frequently. Take for example that while I was going through all of my recipes and magazines I was wearing my reading glasses. When I took them off I found it harder and harder to focus on any type of print in front of me, i.e: my cell phone. It's like going from regular TV to HD. It wasn't that long ago that I used to brag about how great my eyesight was, but just this year that all changed and quickly. Dang, getting old sucks. Oh well, if you know anything about me, you know that I now have 6000 stylish pairs of reading glasses and that I turned being "vision challenged" into a fashion triumph. Monday, Monday

It's a Monday welcome back and I hope all my blogger buddies had a great Easter Sunday!

It's always difficult getting back into the groove, and since I hosted my family yesterday, I'm exhausted!!

So here's a few tidbits I threw together for Monday:

• Finally, some Red Sox wins!! Yay! It's about time fellas, let's keep it going. And a Celtics sweep. So what if it's the lowly Knicks, we beat Carmelo and I say bring it to the boys of Miami! And what about those Bruins? Instead of being on the brink of elimination, they are one game away from winning the series.



• The weather is slowly getting good. I think we might have reached in the high 70's yesterday. Rejoice!



• After a stellar week of sun, fun and some R&R, I rewarded myself with a feast of bounty yesterday. It was sooo good.



• I'm all caught up on my Nurse Jackie episodes and all set to watch tonite! That bitch is crazee!



• Gotta do inventory this week., UGH.



• Frack gave up soda for lent and I swear he practically took a bath in it yesterday.



• Been using a great product to extend my Florida tan a bit. Model Co. Tan Extender. It's a fabulous, gradual self tan product that actually gives your already sun tanned skin a glow and nourishes and tones the skin. I recommend you use it alone or when you are already tan. It works gradually and will not streak. Good stuff, and yes, it is available at The Candy Bar.



• I reconnected with that Blogger/Twitter extraordinaire, Dr. Zibbs, over the week. Seems he's a Twittering big shot now. So great to talk to him, that Zibsy sure is crazee and it's nice to know he's still at the top of his game.

Monday Morning

I can't say that I enjoy Monday's. Nobody really does. It comes after my favorite day of the week, Sunday, and it has a way of creeping up on the sanctity of Sunday.

Reasons for hating Mondays:

• It's Monday. Need I say more?


• All the crap you left on Friday till after the weekend is staring you in the face, taunting you like an uninvited guest.


• Monday is always the day you swear you are going to stop procrastinating. "Ill start on Monday." And you know that once Monday rolls around you're doomed.


• Monday's can be hopeful. Staring down the face of the coming week, it can seem like you have plenty of time to do what needs to be done. Then you wake up and realize that ain't gonna happen.


• Monday is a buzz kill. It come on the heels of a weekend. The best days of the week are on the weekend, but sadly Monday won't stay away. It's inevitable and sometimes it tries to mask it's responsibility with a holiday. Only when Monday makes a long weekend, do we embrace it with open arms.


• You don't hear pop singers making songs about Monday, do you?


• No one EVER wants to be known as a "Monday Morning Quarterback".


• There's nothing good on TV on Monday Nights. Except for Nurse Jackie.

The best thing about Monday, is that it will soon pass and before we know it, it will be gone .

Then we can get on happily with our lives because we will be one day closer to the weekend.

Back To Business

*heavy sigh*

Back to business as usual.

• Thank goodness the summer has finally arrived here in the East, because its about time. At least we will have one month of a warm summer. Lucky us!


• IHop announces that kids eat free for a MONTH. Too bad I haven't seen an IHop in my area since 1977.


• Tiger Woods-defeated for the first time in nine years in a major tournament when leading the field. If you're Y.E. Yang today, life is good.....


• Did you see the picture of the couple with the squirrel? Of course the skeptics are questioning the authenticity of the shot, but OMG, is that squirrel the cutest thing you have ever seen?? He could be the next Susan Boyle of the critter world.


• We are just a few short weeks away from the start of the NFL season. Thank you JESUS. I still need to sign up for Fantasy Football. I figure we will engage in Fantasy Football Friday's here on The Dandy. Whatcha think?


• I'm in NYC for the International Gift Show for one day today. Keep your little fingers crossed that I get done everything that I need to do in one day. Thanks.


• We ate at Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill last night after I got off the train. Let's just say while the food was good, mine was cold (and I'm NOT a "sender backer") but had to send back my entree, because it was that cold. Then they comped us dessert, which was a heavenly coconut cake, then took a ridiculously long time getting us the check. It ruined the entire night.


• Speaking of "food sender backers", I think we will discuss this topic in depth tomorrow.
