The Big O

As much as I hate to admit this, I've missed her.

In the end, I really didn't watch her much. Mainly because I have a job, but if I were home and it was 4pm Opie was on my TV. Then there was that extra special interview that I really didn't want to miss, so I would set the DVR and watch it later. There really is no one like her and as invincible as she once was on TV, the move to her OWN network has been the dimming of her once bright superstar.

But don't feel bad for Oprah.

Because just when I thought it was over for her, she goes and does something exciting. Tomorrow Oprah will guest co-host Good Morning America, of which I am a most loyal viewer. GMA is the home of Robin Roberts, who is battling a rare blood disorder and has taken an extended medical leave from her job as co-anchor of GMA to receive a bone marrow transplant. Oprah is one of several stars to fill for Robin at the anchor chair, including Katie Couric, Barbara Walters, Diane Saywer and and Amy Robach.

Yesterday, GMA kicked off it's revolving guest co-host with Jessica Simpson who, sorry, SUCKED. Her silly and stupid act is very unflattering and it just makes me think that its not an act. But Oprah? The Queen of Media was once a TV anchor and I, for one, am excited to follow along with her as she navigates me through my morning.

So yeah, I've missed her.

And I wish her a great broadcast tomorrow, but I don't think she's going to need it. I think she's going to do exactly what she does best and do it well.

Matthew McConaughy Is Still Hot

So last night I watched The Lincoln Lawyer with good old boy Matthew McConaughy, and I gotta say, I really liked it. I would recommend it on a simple, exciting, not too violent level because it was a good story that kept you guessing. But for me , the biggest surprise was Matthew McConaughy.

Matthew has become somewhat of a caricature of himself in recent years. If you read the rag magazines like I do, Matthew has been the poster boy of douchebaggery. He, of the jogging on the beach shirtless, living in a trailer on the beach, impregnating a hot Brazilian model, twice, and his cheezey "I'm all that" attitude left me completely uninterested. I even balked at the movie of choice last night saying, "I'm really not a Matthew McConaughey fan."

After the movie I realized that Matthew McConaughy just my have been the reason I liked the movie so much. He worked that douchebaggery into cinematic magic. He's also smokin' hot which didn't hurt, but he didn't use his bare chest to gain my interest. He played a hard living, cocky, criminal defense lawyer to perfection and he won me over. Now I'm thinking he's not such a douche after all.

The casting on this movie was great too. Marissa Tomei and William H. Macy both cast well in supporting roles and Ryan Phillippie plays a convincing villain. The movie opened to little fan fare, but I think it may have new life with On Demand and positive word of mouth. I give it a Daily Dandy two thumbs up, and I give Matthew kudos for getting me to take a second look.

That Texas good old boy still has some magic left in his Stetson.

Weekend Poop

A stellar weekend over at the Daily Dandy.

The Prom was a huge success! Gorgeous and safe are the the two adjectives I would use to describe the event. The sun decided to make an appearance and the kids had a ball. Drama -free is how Frick described her night. Thank goodness.

The Sox/Cubs game didn't go as well. My Guy ended up giving away the tix because I was doing all the PROM makeup and didn't finish till late, then we had to do the picture thing and the kids left around 6:30 and it was just crazy. Oh well, maybe I won't have to wait 93 years to see them shellac the Red Sox again at Fenway.

Elvis Costello was how I spent my Friday night, and although I cannot claim to be a big fan, I really enjoyed the show. He's kinda cute, Elvis is, with his little British accent and his collection of Fedoras. He had a go go cage on stage and a wheel of fortune looking spinner with all of his songs. He would take someone from the audience who would spin the spinner and select a song, then he would sing it for them while they danced in the go go cage.

No, I didn't get to go up on stage.

It hardly rained this weekend, which is a miracle, and I got to enjoy my nieces' graduation party yesterday in the great outdoors. I'm so happy she had a great day.

Now it's Monday and it's raining again.

Whatever. I'll take the rain. I just thank God I don't live in Missouri. Blessings to all of the people affected by the tornado.

Peace bloggers and count your blessings.

On The Flip Side

There are two sides to every story.
Yesterday I wrote about the horrors that some teens are capable of.
Today I'm sharing the flip side of that story.

Maybe it was fate, karma or whatever you want to call it, but when I got this in my email today, I knew I had to share it with you.

There is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Hwy 25 in rural Iowa. For generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on this rock, changing its character many times.

A few months back, the rock received its latest paint job, and since then it has been left completely undisturbed. It's quite an impressive sight. Be sure to scroll down and check out the multiple photos. (all angles) of the rock. I thought the flag was draped over the rock, but it's not. It's actually painted on the rock too.

Here's the artist: Ray ' Bubba ' Sorensen.
Congrats Bubba. You have redeemed my faith in teens.
