I Was Just Thinking....

  • BAG LADY: I have serious issues. In the past month I have bought/received 5 handbags. And not cheap ones. I have very expensive taste and once I get one I am on to the next one. Each one unique and expensive. My Guy is constantly telling me that he is going to sell my old, expensive handbags on Ebay and finance a trip around the world for BOTH of us. Like I said- I have serious issues.

  • REAL EYES: Remember I told you about how blind I am? Well guess what? I got CONTACTS!!! Yes, me-I got contacts for what's called monovision. One contact is for distance and the other is for up close reading. So far so good! It's been 4 days and I haven't reached for my glasses once while I am at work, which is highly unusual for me. Most people comment on my FAB Tom Ford glasses, but the contacts are working great, so I don't need them for my day to day work duties. There is one small problem though-I am not the best at inserting them and removing them. They say this comes with practice and I really hope so because it took me over an hour the first day to put them in, 45 minutes the next two days, but today? 9 MINUTES TOTAL! This could be a good thing!

  • PEACE YET SORROW: They found the wreckage in the ocean off Indonesia of the AirAsia plane that disappeared a few days ago.Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for the victims and families of the passengers on board. I am, however, grateful for a resolution to the tragedy for the loved ones. Unlike the Malaysian Airline plane that disappeared and was never recovered earlier this year. I cant help but think that those families must live in some kind of "Lost" fantasy from time to time.

  • I WANNA BE A BILLIONAIRE: Saw "Guardians of The Galaxy" last night. What a terrific movie! I absolutely loved it. Here's the thing, I have seen this movie advertised on iTunes, On Demand, Apple TV and thought it looked stupid so I breezed over it a million times. My BFF, who sees every movie imaginable in the theaters, also commented that it was a great movie, but I still considered it  to be what looked like a dud. Then I saw an "Best movies of 2014" end of year list that had it at #1. It grossed over 1.8 BILLION dollars so far, so My Guy and I decided to watch it with reservations. Boy were we wrong! There are 1.8 billion reasons to love this movie. I highly recommend it.

  • NEW YORK STATE OF MIND: Frick is BACK and we are going to NYC on Thursday to get her situated in her most beloved city. I am so happy that my baby is back on American terra firma and going back to the place she calls home. I miss the city too-I haven't been back since the summer. I love seeing her in her element. It warms a mother's heart.

Thank God It's Friday

When I was a kid, back in the seventies, I remember watching the movie "Thank God it's Friday". The movie was about a Friday night in the hot new disco in town, "The Zoo". I loved this silly movie because it gave me a peek into the glamorous disco scene that was huge at that time. The cast of crazy characters spun together somehow seemed just the right amount of fun.

The late, great Donna Summer played a young disco diva who wanted her chance to sing in the spotlight at the club, but kept being dismissed time and time again by DJ Bobby Speed. Until the end...when she stole the spotlight and sang her Academy Award winning song, "Last Dance". Good times...

I think I'm going to find a copy of this gem at some point this weekend and go back in time to The Zoo!

Thank God it's Friday Bloggers! Go out and get your "Last Dance" on.

Monday, Err Ummm, I Mean Tuesday Morning Water Cooler

This is the post I was about to post yesterday when I got distracted by something and forgot about it:

Monday Morning Headline News:

  • It's frigid weather here so nothing much to do but indoor activities, so I saw two great movies yesterday.
  • First up: Saving Mr Banks. This was a delight! Emma Thompson's portrayal of the acerbic author P.L Travers, who wrote the children's classic Mary Poppins series, was so unlikable which was in stark contrast to Tom Hanks' lovable portrayal of Walt Disney. The movie tells the tale of the making of Disney's classic musical motion picture of Travers book Mary Poppins and the seemingly insurmountable battle that ensued. In telling the tale we get a biographical look at Travers childhood with a surprise turn from Colin Farrell as her alcoholic banker father. I give this one a resounding two thumbs up! Let's just say that I enjoyed it so much, that I made a purchase on Amazon.com immediately after.
  •  After a quick dinner, I then watched Dallas Buyers Club.  Talk about an about face on the subject matter. I get why Matthew McConaughey is winning all the awards for Best Actor this season. The movie and his performance was riveting. The subject matter-HIV Virus and Aids in the mid 80's-set the stage for McConaughey's portrayal of a man who unwittingly finds out about his diagnosis and death sentence. Jared Leto plays his transgendered partner in the journey to stay alive and beat the odds. Both McConaughey and Leto lost unhealthy amounts of weight to play these roles which lent itself to the urgency of this debilitating disease and the desperate measures people were willing to take in those days. Certainly worth viewing, for sure.
  • Fortune or Misfortune? You decide. Watch out for those winter pot holes!  While I was going to pick up balloons for The Candy Bar event on Friday, I drove right over a pot hole the size of a bathtub. I didn't see it but my car certainly did! I was on a major thoroughfare with lots of traffic. Immediately the tire began to deflate and the steering wheel locked up. I pulled into the first driveway I could, which just so happen to be a Jiffy Lube. As I stepped out of the car on that frigid morning, an employee of Jiffy Lube came out to inspect. "I just got a bad flat tire can you help me?" was all I could muster up and I could hardly believe it when the man asked for my keys and pulled it into his garage to change to my spare. The whole thing took maybe 15 minutes and they didn't charge me!!!! I sent him a Dunkin Donuts gift card while i still wonder with amazement.
So how was your weekend?
