Flashback Friday

Hey Bloggers! Happy Friday. I'm dedicating this post to my blogger buddies Beckeye and Dr Kenneth Noisewater, Heff and Bama Trav and all you other music aficionado's.

Me? I suck at music, but a song came on the radio the other day that brought me back to a wonderful time in my life. The Monkees were a TV phenom boy band back in the day and I used to watch them with stars in my eyes. The beloved band, The Monkees, were comprised of heart throbs and awkward hippy teens who cranked out a groovy sound for a comedy TV show aimed at teens. I was their target demographic and I took the bait hook, line and sinker.

Funny, the group endured all kinds of criticism because the band was formed around a TV show. Some say they lacked the strengths of a band that had been jammin together for a while and dubbed them a fraud. But you can't deny the songs they produced that still stand today.

So I chose three of my Monkees favorites and lets vote on the quintessential song that represent them. I'll tell you later which one is my favorite.

Have a Pleasant Valley Weekend Bloggers.

Ooooh man. I frigging LOVED that show when I was a kid (I think it was reruns)! I also saw them in concert when I was like, 16!! So funny.

Of those three, I'd have to go with "Last Train to Clarksville" as the quintessential Monkees song. It might have been "I'm A Believer," but its inclusion in Shrek has made it almost impossible to listen to anymore. (My nephew used to do the singalong thing included on the DVD like 10 times a day.) I need a long break from that song.

Speaking of being a believer though, what about "Daydream Believer?" That's probably the first song that comes to mind when I think of The Monkees.

As for personal favorites, this one has always been mine.

I was so grateful for the Monkees revival in the '80s. I watched it on MTV all the time and saw them live twice. I was belatedly in love with Davy Jones. :)

I vote with "Last Train To Clarksville." They might have sung about not being your "Stepping Stone" but they paved the way for all the boy bands to follow.

But my favorite song of theirs is "I'm Gonna Buy Me A Dog"

I would have liked to have voted for "Cheer up, Sleepy Jean," or whatever that one is called. I guess out of these I will go with "I'm a Believer," seeing as it's the best song and the biggest hit of the three, written by the Jewish Elvis, Neil Diamond.

I loved the TV show as a kid, and I recommend you watch their psychadelic screwed up movie, "Head."
