Phat Or Fat?

Is this FAT?

By now I'm sure you've all heard the buzz...The celebrity gossip rags are in a tizzy over these recent photos of Jessica Simpson. Some are kinder than others, dubbing her "curvier", with more than a few calling her just plain "fat". Poor Jessica, lately the girl just can't seem to catch a break. Horrified over the media scrutiny of her recent weight gain, it has been reported that Jessica is on the verge of a meltdown and the breakdown watch is officially on.

But can you look at these photos and say for sure that she is FAT? She most certainly looks more voluptuous than she has in the past. This may be true, but FAT?? If fat be the case, then what is considered fat? And are we talking fat in real life or fat in Hollywood? Fat in Hollywood just isn't tolerated and it's standards for beautiful women are at times unattainable and unrealistic. Our society has been paying the price for that for years.

So what is the real nature of the crime here? Jessica gained a few extra pounds? Shame on her, she should have know better. Famous for being beautiful and having a great voice, it's as if she reneged on the beautiful part of the contract and now they're calling her on it. We watched her break out onto the scene with her new husband, Nick Lachey, and giggled over her "innocence" when it came to matters of logic. They became America's sweethearts, a perfect role model for the young and in love. Then it ended without warning. For whatever the reason, the newlyweds didn't make it as a couple and we watched that soap opera play out it the magazines and pop charts. Then Jessica did the unthinkable. She started dating in Hollywood which made her an easy target for the media.

Whether you love her or you hate her, the question here is who really cares? Maybe Jessica is happy for the first time in a long time. Certainly, we shouldn't hold a few extra pounds against her for feeling good about being young and in love. Yet the media continues on with the "fat" debate, with more than a few celebrities "weighing in" on the controversy. (no pun intended) God forbid a beautiful woman "let's herself go", which is certainly not the case here.
When I look at those photos, my first thought is that her stylist should be fired, IMMEDIATELY. Not the most flattering look for sure, but FAT??? I'm sorry. I just don't see it.
To continue on with a media campaign of denouncing Jessica for a slight weight gain is as damaging to our collective morale as it is to Jessica's.

Shut up already and who really cares?? Nobody buys her shoes anyway.

*take my poll on the side bar. I'm curious what you think.

I guarantee the next time you see photos of Jessica on TMZ she will be looking hawt!

I thought she looked good in these pics. Bad outfit, but I dig the extra curves.

She's not fat but she has gained weight.

The worst offender are these housewives that watch and obey Oprah everyday and think they're good people then are saying to their girlfriends, "Isn't Jessica fat now?"

I hate the media- way to promote anorexic chicks.

I love JSim (and her shoes!), and totally agree with you. The media has been horrible to this poor girl for a few years now. She's a lot tougher than I would be.

It's the same old shit...girls are made fun of for being even slightly overweight, but then they're made fun of for being too skinny. No matter how far we have come as a society, women are still expected to be "just right" or they're ridiculed.

And it used to be that men could be fat and no one would say anything, but now even they can't get away with it. I'm constantly seeing pictures of guys like (my beloved) John Travolta, Vince Vaughn, etc. in their swim trunks with their bellies exposed, while the dorks at TMZ and the other rags all point and laugh and go "eeeewwwww!" It's so damn annoying.

We have become a society obsessed with weight. It is stupid, I think women look best with curves!

The high waist pants and TWO belts were a mistake, but I'd still hit it, hit it, hit it.

Most def, wrong choice of pants, honey! She has gained weight and I don't think she looks bad BUT I think she looked SMOKING when she did that stupid movie The Dukes Of Hazzard. yeah, I know, she was skinnier but she looked better. Sorry...

Heck yeah.

I was thinking of writing about this with a line saying, any guy who says he wouldn't still do her is a filthy lyre.

Heavier? Yes. Fat? Hell no. But does someone need to make sure she doesn't go ful Anna Nichole Smith on us? Yes.

And I agree, the stylist needs to adjust to the fuller figure. Not try to hide it, but work with it.

She's guilty of wearing bad clothes. But that's not fat.

How was this even a story?

She is in noy way even "chubby". Bad stylist. Also, people in love do gain a couple of pounds!

What kills me is the ones talking the most smack have the LEAST perfect bodies.

Hey, our President says she's fat, and he silences those that don't agree with him, so let's just say the cow is now.

Sass said...

Fat? Absolutely not.

Wearing mom jeans with 9 inch zippers? Yup. Therein lies the crime.

;)

I'd give anything to be as "fat" as she is. hee hee.

The media loves to rip people apart cause it makes for a good "comeback" story when they lose the 5 pounds when it isn't an issue in the first place.

CHEF TROLL said...

Never heard of her. Would have to see a before picture to ascertain whether she's on the fast-track to bovine status. She's not fat YET, in my opinion.

Sass said...

Oh, and Candy, you get a D for Dandy.

have fun!!!

And seriously, my word verification is

minchub.

I like that...

The bigger issue here is those mom jeans.

Not fat. But the belt is hideous. I don't think the belt does her any favors at all.

Let's send the lynch mob after the stylist, not the poor girl!! I can't even imagine how I would feel if I were her right now. I am worried my students may notice I gained weight, I would freak if the whole nation noticed... AND HAD THE COURTESY TO POINT IT OUT!!!!

Its the same group of people that called Britney fat - all the while they sit on the couch eating potato chips with their guts hanging over their belts. I just saw a picture of Jack Black in US mag in a swimsuit and not one comment was made about his huge belly. Meanwhile Jessica is on the cover with a before and after shot. Total double standard. I think Jessica looks healthy and is probably eating normally. The outfit was really bad as are most she should ditch her stylist. With all the hot tops she has access to was an unflattering on most tank top the only option? guh

She was just here in town last week (she's opening for Rascal Flatts) and I didn't hear a word afterword about her weight issue. Superficial as it is, celebrities DO get paid to look good. A few extra pounds isn't going to make Jessica Simpson look bad.

Let's also consider that these are photos and who doesn't look a little bigger than they actually are in a photo. That being said, she doesn't look fat in these photos anyway... a little curvier than she previously was, and yes, bigger than a lot of her hollywood counterparts, but soooooo NOT fat.

Sassy Britches said...

Ummm...excuse me?? How did I miss this post?! Jessica is not, nor has she ever been, in all of her fluctuations of weight, FAT. She's freakin' gorgeous!

1) I actually have a pair of her shoes...cute but hurts like hell.

2) I admit the outfit isn't very flattering, but if THAT is what's considered fat, then haul me away with a friggin tractor cuz apparently Im a blimp!

3) She's pretty no matter what, and the extra pounds don't affect her talents.

more of a bfm (bad fashion mistake) than fat.

pure evyl said...

That ain't fat. It's barely fluffy.

Fragrant Liar said...

She's not remotely fat. She looks great. It's her outfit that's terrible.

If Jess lived back in the day of Marilyn Monroe, Marilyn would be heftier.

I say, leave the girl alone. She rocks.

LYDIA said...

I couldn't agree more. But I do own one pair of her shoes lol.
