I'm Doing Flips For My Flops

It's that wonderful time of year when the shivers of winter are but a mere memory and the warmth of the season casts it's alluring spell on us all. And from this day forward, rain or shine, I will be wearing my flip flops, exclusively. Flip flops make me happy and nothing is more freeing than the prospect of existing in a climate where flip flops are a pre-requisite. No summer footwear is more adored or coveted than the versatile flip flop but, as with any thing that is truly pleasurable, they come with a bit of controversy.

The nay sayers (experts) warn that wearing these innocent little rubber soles with a thong can be dangerous. They are said to offer "no support" and can put a significant strain on the lower back, the achilles tendon, and result in shin splints and/or twisted ankles. I have even heard horror stories about the perils of descending a flight of stairs while wearing flip flops. Experts warn that flip flops are best worn on sandy beaches and for short stints only.

I say, NO WAY! Let's look at the flip side of these flops. (see what I did there?)A one time personal trainer, Marcia Kilgore, designed a flip flop that is said to help women and men to tone and trim the legs just by wearing them while running every day errands. The result; The FitFlop. Medical research has proven that wearing FitFlops can actually eliminate the strain and stress on the lower back by realigning the force of the body while while walking and testimonials repeatedly show that FitFlop wearers have seen a reduction in foot and back pain, some by as much as 50 percent.

Sign me up! They retail, starting at $50-$60, and come in many styles and colors for both men and women. I will admit to seeing them on people whilst out and about and can report that FitFlop wearers are FitFlop lovers. Not the most fashion forward looking shoe, but it does have an athletic appeal and I'm thinking I will take the plunge into the world of floppy fitness!

For today, the temps will be nearing 90 degrees (what happened to Spring?) and rest assured, my feet will be well "flipped" out with the newest addition to my flip flop family.

Can you blame me? What's a little back pain between friends?

Feet are the most unattractive part of the human body. Covering them up is a must. Flip-flops do not achieve the foot cover up prerequisite I require for social interaction.

Here in Seattle our flip flops are fleece lined and covered in Gore-tex. Socks are optional.

Ooh I love the pink ones (natch) but I think the silver starfish ones rock!

I have a pair of flip-flops (called THONGS in Aussie!) that have reed-mat where your foot goes that I bought when I went back to Australia, and I love them to death. You know summer's arrived when it's warm enough to break out the flip flops.

Ahahaha, my word ver is flopso. Not even kidding!

Ahhhhh - flip flops. LOVE THEM. I design my wardrobe around the ones I have. Typically, I wear nothing else on my feet between the months of March and October.

Those starfish ones are adorable!

We still have snow on the ground. Flips and flops will both have to wait.

I LOVE ME SOME flip flops. To hell with the feet experts. I'll be wearing some big ugly black orthopedic flip flops at the beach when I'm 90.

Love flip flops. LOVE them.

I crack up because my parents still call them thongs.

And my dad talks about wearing his thong to the shower house in campgrounds.

Scrub me of the mental image. ;)

I have the cutest Skechers flip flops, Candy, but I have been forbidden to wear them ever again by my Neurologist. I am not allowed to wear slip on shoes of any variety or the Neurologist will sit me in time out with a dunce cap on my head.

It's most unfair.

My readers really hate flip-flops for some reason. Especially the "mandals" version. Also "crocs".

I think your starfish ones are kinda cute.

There are NO shoes for women that are good for their back or feet, unless they're orthopedic or maybe running shoes, so these fit-flops are amazing. I'm definitely going to check them out.

Alas the flip-flop and I have never gotten along. My toes somehow hang of the edge because I've never mastered the art of walking in those. Advanced biped skills I should probably try to acquire, though.

Ladies make sure the feet look right before you put the flip flops on lol. . .

The Juicy star fish are done and DONE! Love them!
I found some darling flops at Target this week, too. They look exactly like the 'Pink' flops at Victoria's Secret but they're on sale for $5. Ch-ch-ch-check it out!

I like Flip Flops, but I can't wear them. They give me much more than back pain :( I've had arm pain and hurt knees from wearing Flip Flops, but the worst has to be the face pain!

It's all due to a 140 lb prankster that goes by the name Lucifer. Whenever I wear my flip flops, he likes to step on the shoe as I'm taking a step and the sole no longer touches my foot causing me to fall flat on my face. It's worse though when I wear snowshoes, landing face first in snow is not all that pleasant :D

I have the ugliest toes on the planet and try to keep them covered up in public at all times. Even at home, as my littlest niece once asked me, "Auntie, what's wrong wif yo feet?".

Now we just need to see your feet actually in them. Shut up Heff!

The most recent addition to my flip flop collection (and FAVORITE I should add) is the Exer-Fit by Earth Footwear. They offer great support and tone my legs. I couldn't ask for anything more!!!!
