Should He Have?

It was kind of hard to watch. What do you think? Should Dick have done it?

  1. I don't know really. He's been such a beloved public persona for so many years, it might not even phase him. But if it were me, I wouldn't put myself in a position where people could possibly ridicule me. Oh, wait! I do that every day with my blog.

    Nevermind.

But all bets aside, I loathe sloppy kisses. I want it planted firm and not drooly.

  2. I didn't see it live. By the time we flipped over, it was post ball drop for you, and Dick was off the air.

Most of me says, "No." He shouldn't have done it.

But part of me says "Yes". We shouldn't just shove people out of "normal" society because they have a physical or mental imparement.

    Tough call.

  3. Sometimes its just better to Pass the Torch. I think that in this case, Dick needs to step aside and let Mr. Seacrest take over.

  4. I personally don't care but there comes a time when every pitcher knows its well past time to leave the mound but refuses to go with grace because they think they can still throw that 95 mph fast ball one more time.

Grace and dignity is not how them who never knew him 10-40 years ago will remember him. I think the coaches should have pulled him.

what makes it worse is that he is trying SO HARD to be his old self. its sad.

  6. This is the first time I’ve seen it. I’m torn on this one. I’m all for tradition and I think it’s great to see him get to do what he loves to do. But when it’s such a public thing…..you’re right it’s just plain hard to watch. Sad. Like seeing Ali do some of his old lines, it just makes me want to cry or something.

  7. It is uncomfortable to watch, but the father of a special needs child in me has to look at him from a different perspective. A lot of people are uncomfortable watching my son, and I wouldn't want them to shove him aside so that they don't have to look at him.

  8. Dick Clark pretty much defined the New Year's Eve Balldrop forever. If anyone can get away with it, it's Dick.

  9. I think it bothers other people more than it bothers him. Everyone is youth-obsessed. Obviously, he still wants to do it, so why not?

  10. I'd be sad if he didn't carry on presenting until at least 2012, cos that'll be his 40th anniversary of presenting it!

  11. Whooo boy, that's a tough call. But, that said, we don't need to watch octagenarians kiss. Not good.
