I've Been A Little Wine-y Lately

Nothing says ahhhhh like a nice glass of wine after a long day. Because I have a huge smile full of white teeth, my preference is a white wine but I've been known to enjoy a deep red too. Indulging in an evening glass of wine is like the ultimate little treat. It give me something to look forward to and it kicks off relax time just perfectly.

But lately I've found that drinking my beloved wine makes me sleepy. I never have more than two glasses, and lately even if I have one, I'm out cold on the sofa an hour into my favorite TV shows. Its become a joke in my house, like I have to attend the early bird special and have my wine early in order to stay awake past 8pm. This is sooo not like me. What the heck?

So I tested my wine/sleepy/alcohol after a certain hour of the day theory. I started drinking my favorite cocktail instead, just one or two, to see if alcohol was the sleepy culprit. I like Captain Morgan's spiced rum with diet coke or diet gingerale and a lime. Nothing. I was fine after indulging in more than one and I was even able to stay up and catch a 10:00 Real Housewives of New York episode.

So I guess I need to lay off the grape for a while if I want to experience the next six hours of my life which really sucks because I love my wine time. Is this the result of getting old? I sure hope not. Maybe it's just a phase. Maybe I'll just keep plugging ahead and drinking my wine and see if I get my wine legs back? Maybe.
Cuz I'm thinking no wine at all will most definitely make me a little wine-y.

Ignorance Is A Hail Mary

Truth be told, I've been a bit busy with a project that I'm working on, but imagine my surprise when I leaned LAST NIGHT, on the evening news about what will probably go down in history as the worst blown call in professional football.

It was everywhere. On the internet, one the news, on the radio, on almost every football fan's topic of conversation, yet I. a football fan myself and complete media junkie, managed to miss it. Embarrassed but determined, I immediately educated myself on the facts. I couldn't believe it.

In a last ditch effort to win the Monday Night Football game, Settle launched one of the most exciting, when successful, plays in football, "The Hail Mary". What happened next is now history. Blatant offensive interference was committed by Seahawk's receiver Golden Tate and it looked to me like Green Bay safety M. D. Dennings had possession of the ball which is an interception, not a TD in my book. The facts are the facts and the ruling on the field, a touch down, was made by the inexperienced, replacement officials. The NFL has backed the scabs and the sporting world and sports fans alike are in a tizzy.

Twitter immediately blew up, and freedom of Tweet was thoroughly exercised. Even Mr. President weighed in on the call by tweeting, "@BarackObama NFL fans on both sides of the aisle hope the refs' lockout is settled soon"

Ya think?

PGA Professional took the opportunity to pounce on the competition and tweeted. "@bubbawatson All @nfl fans watch the Ryder Cup this week, we got no refs. #USA"

Good point Bubba.

Imagine being one of those two refs? Here's hoping they both have a job today and a trench coat and dark glasses.

NFL QB Drew Brees said it best when he tweeted, "@I love this league and love the game of football, but tonight's debacle hurts me greatly. This is NOT the league we're supposed to represent."

I'm sure Seattle fans will always disagree that this was a bad call and the debates between those few who agree with it and those who don't will be legendary. If it were my beloved Pats' I might have six thousand arguments as to why it was the right call, but somehow, in the midst of all the craziness after I watched the replay over and over, I was left thinking one thing that was completely unrelated. I was left thinking that this is a prime example of how good old Pete Carroll managed to dodge another bullet.

Divine Understanding

A man on his Harley was riding along a California beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, God said, 'because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.'

The biker pulled over and said, 'Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want.'

God replied, 'Your request is materialistic; think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required reaching the bottom of the Pacific and the concrete and steel it would take! I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help mankind.'

The biker thought about it for a long time. Finally, he said, 'God, I
wish that I , and all men, could understand women; I want to know how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, why she snaps and complains when I try to help, and how I can make a woman truly happy.

God replied: 'You want two lanes or four on that bridge?

The Politics Of Life

So Frack started asking me about the issues in this election. What I found so interesting was that he seems to be forming opinions about political parties and political posturing. He asked me specifically about taxes and what Obama has done and what Romney claims he will do. I didn't quite have the answers for him, and I'm realizing that we both need to be more informed.

The one thing I could tell him for sure was that partisan politics has never been more divided than it has at this moment in recent history and that the crux of this problem lies in the House and the President's politics. When the two can't agree to look over party lines, real damage can be done and not for the good of the people.

What can I tell him and how can I help to mold his political opinions when I myself, do not affiliate with any political party?

So I told him I vote for the man. I told him I listen to the issues and I try to focus on the ones that matter to me and my family. I'm a small business owner, so I listen when they talk about that. I am a tax payer, so I am concerned about where my tax dollars are going and whether or not they will increase or decrease. I have a family and I'm concerned about their health and well being. I want to know that the government cares about them too. And I told him that change comes in small doses and that it's important to give back to the community.

I'm in awe of his 16-yr-old political curiosity.

I hope I am doing him a service by spewing forth my very own brand of politics so that he may someday become politically responsible too. It's certainly something I thought about but not to the extent that I need to now. I owe it to my son and to the future of this country.

Work In Progress

I'm working on a project.

I'm going to be doing some construction today and I'll be getting down and dirty. I'm going to be using tools like an electric drill and other big ass tools like that. This should be good. I am actually looking forward to it. I have absolutely no experience, but I love being totally hands on when working on a project.

Wish me luck bloggers and please pray I don't break one of my nails.

Witty Wednesday

A 6 year old and a 4 year old are raking the yard.
The 6 year old asks, "You know what? I think it's about time we started learning to cuss."The 4 year old nods his head in approval.
The 6 year old continues,"When we go in for breakfast, I'm gonna say something with hell and you say something with ass."
The 4 year old agrees with enthusiasm.
When the mother walks into the kitchen and asks the 6 year old what he wants for breakfast, he replies, "Aw, hell, Mom, I guess I'll have some Cheerios.
WHACK!
He flies out of his chair, tumbles across the kitchen floor, gets up,and runs upstairs crying his eyes out, with his mother in hot pursuit, slapping his rear with every step.
His mom puts him in his room and shouts, "You can stay there until I let you out!"
She then comes back downstairs, looks at the 4 year old and asks with a stern voice, "And what do YOU want for breakfast, young man?"
"I don't know," he blubbers, "but you can bet your fat ass it won't be Cheerios!"

Blow Me One Last Kiss.

Dang, she's hot.

Seriously, I was watching her perform on the Today Show this morning and I was just thinking about how sexy and hot Pink is. She's hot in so many ways than being just hot too.

I mean first, she's a Rock Star. Crazy talented, edgy and just crazy-f-ed up enough to produce some real genius. Pink rocks it hard and from her music you get the feeling that in her short 33 years on this planet she's lived a lot of life. She doesn't lip sync her live performances because she changes up her spot on raspy vocals with some amazing harmonies which are unique to each show. Her songs usually have her trademark profanities laced within the lyrics but Pink gladly deletes them for more viewer friendly venues like Rockefeller Plaza. All signs that the once hard-core rocker has softened.

Now she's a mom. And clear, sober and happy are the words Pink uses to describe her life today. Reunited with her husband Corey Hart after a brief separation, she's got a beautiful little girl and she's just released a new album that drops today entitled, "The Truth About Love."

Then there's the whole 'she doesn't even know she's beautiful' thing. Pink, the same girl that sang, "Tired of being compared to damn Britney Spears/ She's so pretty. That just ain't me." in her hit "Don't Let Me Get Me", just signed a contract with Cover Girl. Not pretty? She's now a Cover Girl spokesmodel.Take that Britney Spears.

I just love her spirit. She's sexy, beautiful, young, rich, and taking the world by storm once again. If the secret to success in the industry is reinvention (see Madonna) Pink has proved a solid player by just being good.... and true to herself. Pink always "Get's the Party Started" leaving us to "Raise our Glass" and when it's all said and done she reminds us that no one, least of all her, is."F*****ng Perfect".

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

It was one of those weekends.

The Good: I got to see an old friend and help a good one. Seeing people you used to have a great connection and memories with is always a pleasure. It's nice to catch up and commiserate over shared issues and people and laugh about old times. My good friend finally relented, which is a miracle in itself, but she allowed me to help her through a challenge. I can report the outcome was better than expected and facing the challenge may have helped her more that we both know.

The Bad: The hits just keep on coming, but I will not relent. Forward motion is what I will continue and I will not let this battle deter me from my final goal. I've done my due diligence and I'm moving forward with the plan. Battle I will, if the need be, but I will not relent. The strong survive and I've got that on my side. I am confident the outcome will be worth it all.

The Ugly: Oh yeah, it was ugly, and we all know it. Every soldier on that field yesterday and every fan can all agree, that Patriots loss in the home opener was ugly. No two ways about it. Ugly breeds ugly. I couldn't help but feel like this was payback for the Baltimore loss last year in the playoffs on the same play. Now I know what the fan from Baltimore feel like. It doesn't feel good. Yet, every week we keep coming back for more. Go figure.

And in the immortal words of Scarlett O'Hara, "Tomorrow is another day."
I'm holding out hope for today.

Fabulous And Freaky Friday

Hey bloggers!!! Happy Freaky Friday and a very happy kick off to the weekend.

Let's  check in with our WallyWorld Freaky Friends and see what they've been up to. Shall we?

So I'm posting this today, because this seems to be a theme for me lately. I was at a restaurant in the city last night and I got a phone call from Frack. I stepped outside to take the call and I witnessed a scene very similar to this walking down the street. The difference being, the one I saw was more than likely a crack whore because she was very skinny and barefoot, crack exposed, walking down the street. Maybe this one is the head of her crack whores, because that beeper makes her look really important. Don't ya think?

This picture does not bode well for the President in his bid for re-election. Seriously, is the economy this bad?? With the  unemployment rate at 8.1 percent, people are opting to have their summer vacation in the parking lot of the local WalMart. Not good at all..

Oh my...um, well...
All I will say is that snake skin leggings were SO last season.

Hee hee. Is this hilarious? It looks to me like he may be seeking the attention of a pharmacist because he may be experiencing an erection that lasts four or more hours. "Damn them little blue pills."

Somebody needs to take away this guy's little blue pills. Really?

Sorry, but this one one my favorite. I think it's happy and I would swear it's smiling at me. It might have even winked, but I can't be sure.

And finally, I can hardly believe my eyes here. Talk about a fashion Armageddon!! This one hurts my eyes. Hey, I'm all for the freedom of fashion, but this takes it just a bit too far.

Have a great weekend bloggers and try to keep it covered up. You know, leave a little to the imagination..

Peace!

Through Egg Colored Glasses

Listen, I OWN up to my shi*. If I make a mistake I will tell you I made a mistake, ask for forgiveness and move on. Even and especially if I made a mistake, and I will do my best to rectify the situation.

But this one left me with egg on my face and it wasn't my mistake. I was duped. Oprah didn't guest host GMA..She was on for a mere 10 minutes at most, and she was in New Orleans?. What gives here? Now I'm thinking, where did I hear that Oprah was guest hosting today? I must have heard it on GMA,  where else?  I then think, "am I loosing it?" A quick internet search pulls up:

"Jessica Simpson, 32, was the first special guest host to replace Robin ...Some of the guests include Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Oprah Winfrey, and Kelly Ripa. ... All in all, Jessica fitted right in with the "GMA"crew. Oprah Winfrey and the Kardashian sisters will co-host on Thursday, September 13, 2012."

I think they even advertised and teased Oprah as a co-host today. So not me-THEM- have egg on their face. Whatever...just wanted to set the record straight.

Did you hear about the bank robbers in California who threw their heist of cash out a car window during a high speed pursuit by police yesterday?

The thieves allegedly threw the cash into the streets in a filed bid to block the roads with people. Hundreds of onlookers flooded the streets and started picking up the money in a frenzy. The 90 minute police chase came to an abrupt halt when a truck blocked the stolen car's path and police and onlookers swarmed the stopped get away car. Police had a difficult time controlling the crowd, but managed to detain the suspects.

Can you imagine walking down the street and seeing a car speeding dangerously down the road with a ton of money flying out the window?

I'm thinking after the initial shock, I would too, be grabbing the cash and stuffing it into my pockets as quickly as possible. Thankyouverymuch...

The question is, would you feel guilty for taking the money? I would probably worry that the cops were going to find me and tell me I have to pay it all back and then I would worry that the money was all bad luck karma and think that it brought me bad omens and  bad luck. But that's just me.

What would you feel, bloggers?

The Big O

As much as I hate to admit this, I've missed her.

In the end, I really didn't watch her much. Mainly because I have a job, but if I were home and it was 4pm Opie was on my TV. Then there was that extra special interview that I really didn't want to miss, so I would set the DVR and watch it later. There really is no one like her and as invincible as she once was on TV, the move to her OWN network has been the dimming of her once bright superstar.

But don't feel bad for Oprah.

Because just when I thought it was over for her, she goes and does something exciting. Tomorrow Oprah will guest co-host Good Morning America, of which I am a most loyal viewer. GMA is the home of Robin Roberts, who is battling a rare blood disorder and has taken an extended medical leave from her job as co-anchor of GMA to receive a bone marrow transplant. Oprah is one of several stars to fill for Robin at the anchor chair, including Katie Couric, Barbara Walters, Diane Saywer and and Amy Robach.

Yesterday, GMA kicked off it's revolving guest co-host with Jessica Simpson who, sorry, SUCKED. Her silly and stupid act is very unflattering and it just makes me think that its not an act. But Oprah? The Queen of Media was once a TV anchor and I, for one, am excited to follow along with her as she navigates me through my morning.

So yeah, I've missed her.

And I wish her a great broadcast tomorrow, but I don't think she's going to need it. I think she's going to do exactly what she does best and do it well.

The Number Eleven

Eleven years have past since Sept 11.

Eleven birthdays gone by without the wrinkles, the visible marks of life.
Eleven Christmases and Thanksgivings with an empty seat at the table.
Eleven Septembers to remember the tragic events that will always leave a mark on our souls.

How have we changed?

We are less innocent.
We are less invincible.
We are forever changed.

Where do we go from here?

To Ground Zero to be close to our loved ones and the heroes.
To our experts to find better ways to snuff out terror.
To our resolve so that our National Security is never compromised again.

What have we learned?

That there are no guarantees.
That heroes come in all forms, ages, shapes and sizes and that human kindness does exist.
And that not one of the nearly 3000 sacred souls tragically lost on that fateful day will ever be lost in vain.

Good Guys Don't Always Finish Last

I'm a sucker for a love story.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively pulled off a top secret wedding last night, in Mt Pleasant, SC, leaving the voracious celebrity paparazzi collectively scratching their heads. I love it when the good guys win one. Sources report that Florence of Florence + the Mechanics performed at the reception at Boone Hall Plantation and only friends and family of the couple were in attendance.

Haha! Take that Harvey Levin and the boys at TMZ!

People magazine allegedly broke the story, which probably means that the couple, Lively, 25 and Reynolds, 35, more than likely gave them the exclusive on the pics which I'm sure will be coming to a newsstand near you shortly.

Here's hoping Reynolds and Lively are the longest married and happiest couple in Hollywood. I think they deserve it. Reynolds dodged a bulllet when he married Scarlett Johnasson in 2008 and she dumped him and divorced in 2010. Of course she lived to deeply regret it. How will she ever forgive herself?

I think he made out much better in the deal. Don't you?

I Like Your Style

Who is this guy? This guy is Psy.

He's the funky, fresh Korean K-pop star that is right now sweeping America by storm. Just last night he performed at the VMA Awards, and he recently signed on with Justin Beiber's manager to make history and become the first Korean pop star to break into the American music industry.

His trademark "Gangnam Style" video has over 120 million views, and that number continues to grow every day. Best of all, he's got some Bean town roots as he attended both Boston University and Berklee College of Music.

Check it out bloggers, as a kick start to the weekend and let your own "Gangnam Style" shine.

Peace.

Foxy Brown

EDITOR"S NOTE: Today's post is not a political endorsement of any candidate running for office or any political party. Today's post is just an observation/opinion on physical appearance and has no political agenda whatsoever.

Ok, so can we talk freely?

When did Scott Brown become so foxxy?? I'm watching my TV and I spy a Brown for Senate ad and I'm suddenly thinking. 'damn, that Scott Brown is handsome'. Of course, the ad portrays him as an everyday kind of guy who folds laundry and takes to the road to speak to the people, but I can't stop thinking that the guy is hot. Shame on me.

As a political figure, I'll keep my Scott Brown opinions to myself, but if he's speaking to a group of ladies, I'll wager that he's got ALL of their attention. I'm not sure that is a good or a bad thing, because during that speech, I'm sure 90% of those ladies aren't quite getting his whole message. Yeah, they're thinking what I was thinking and, "What was that you said again? Never mind."

It's true that Scott Brown got some mad swagger these days. Is it because he is a US Senator and he splits his time between Washington and the state of Massachusetts and has tons of photo ops with important and influential people? It can't hurt, and that's what I'm talking about here today. Physical beauty=opportunity. Shallow, but true. Now with all that attention, I have to ask the question if attention=votes? And in an election year, when the women's vote is highly respected and sought after, I wonder if Foxy Brown here has a slight advantage in the voting booth.

As my dad would say; maybe yes, maybe no.

I'd hate to think that women were that shallow.

He Said/She Said

Interesting stuff going on here in MA.

Convicted killer Michelle Kosilek, who at one time was Robert Kosliek, an MCI Norfolk inmate serving life for the 1992 strangling of his wife and disposing of her body in a North Attleboro mall, has spent many years waging a legal battle with the state to pay for a sex change operation. Kosilek's doctors have diagnosed the inmate with gender-identity disorder and say that his "mental illness" has caused him to attempt suicide and self castration. Those same doctors have prescribed gender reassignment surgery.

Yesterday, Kosilek scored a victory when US District Judge Mark Wolf ruled  that denying the surgery violates his Eight Amendment rights against cruel and unusual punishment and his/her right to adequate medical care.

"She really appreciates the careful consideration of the court and the respectful decision," said Kosilek attorney Frances S. Cohen.

But there are those who don't share in that appreciation.

State Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr said following the controversial ruling that it sets a bad precedent for future cases and is, "well beyond the scope of reason, and an unjustifiable expansion of the requirements of the Eight Amendment." Senator Scott Brown was more to the point calling it "an outrageous waste of taxpayers dollars."

So the question lies in what constitutes "cruel and unusual punishment". Is it cruel to expect an inmate to serve his/her time trapped in the body of someone they are not? Or unusual for a "woman" to serve her time in the "male" inmate population when a 2009 University of California, Irvine study found that a transgendered inmate is 13 times more likely to be sexually assaulted.? Yet is it cruel and unusual to deny proper medical treatment to any inmate; transgendered or not?

Yesterday Kosilek scored a legal victory but I'm thinking this war is not over. Wether he gets his surgery or not,  20 years ago his wife Cheryl had no legal recourse when he chose to end her life. There was no appeal to Kosilek's ruling that he was going to kill her. No "careful consideration" to strangling her and dumping her body in a mall.

And all because he chose to utilize cruel and unusual punishment and murder her.

Redneck Medicine

Two hillbillies walk into a restaurant. While having a bite to eat, they talk about their moonshine operation.

Suddenly, a woman at a nearby table, who is eating a sandwich, begins to cough. After a minute or so, it becomes apparent that she is in real distress. One of the hillbillies looks at her and says, 'Kin ya swallar?'
The woman shakes her head no.

Then he asks, 'Kin ya breathe?'
The woman begins to turn blue and shakes her head no.

The hillbilly walks over to the woman, lifts up her dress, yanks down her drawers and quickly gives her right butt cheek a lick with his tongue.
The woman is so shocked that she has a violent spasm and the obstruction flies out of her mouth.

As she begins to breathe again, the Hillbilly walks slowly back to his table.
His partner says, 'Ya know, I'd heerd of that there 'Hind Lick Maneuver' but I ain't niver seed nobody do it!'
